This detailed, ready-to-run Atlas Master(R) Plus HO Scale Portec 3000 2-Bay Covered Hopper is a highly detailed model of a car that was is mainstay for hauling all kinds of heavy or dense granulated materials. Built between 1979 and 1984, the Portec 3000 Hopper was designed to haul heavy bulk commodities such as sand, cement, salt and grain. Boston & Maine was one of the first railroads to purchase these in quantity and in the 2020s many are still in use hauling frac sand. The Portec 3000 Covered Hopper features a detailed, injection-molded body, two roadname-appropriate body styles, etched metal roofwalks and end platforms; appropriate 100-ton trucks with metal wheels, body-mounted metal knuckle couplers and accurate decoration.
